Tripoli was the last Crusader state to manifest, originating out of the war between Count Raymond III of Toulouse and the Arab rulers of a city-state cased on the city itself. Between 1102 and 1109 Raymond and Bertrand (his illegitimate son) beseiged the city (Raymond himself died in 1105) and ifnally conquered it. Tripoli then existed as a County within the Kingdom of Jerusalem until, after the death of its Count Raymond III in 1187 (in the aftermath of the battle of Hattin, it was absorbed into Antioch ....
