Talk:Saxon Shore

Query: according to my humble understanding the name was *coined* by the Roman military command, and a "Duke" or Dux appointed, under the Later Western Empire, to command it. It reached from South Shields down as far (eventually) as Vectis, with specific fortifications along the southern section, say Vectis back round to Norfolk. The fortifications down the Cumbrian Coast, from the Western Wall's End down to White haven may also be an associated project, to protect this remote and little manned area from sea-bourne invasion. --Simoncursitor 02:08, 25 Oct 2005 (CDT)
