The Barony of St Florian de la Riviere was originally created as a proposed [[canton]] of the neighbouring [[Barony of River Haven]]. The group saw its genesis in a [[fighter practice]] run in the back yard of 10 Home St. in Fairfield (the house of Cornelius and Morwynna). Soon an additional evening devoted to the running of arts and sciences activities was being run from the same location. The Home St. location remained the epicentre of the group's activities for many years, hosting several weekly meetings, workshops and even and number of [[event]]s.

Due in part of continuing cultural differences and growing personality fissions, it was decided that St Florian should constitute itself as an independent [[Shire]]. Elements of the Barony of River Haven were vehemently opposed this move. The issue was not resolved until the intervention of [[King]] Fabian, ([[Kingdom of the West|West]]) who, after visiting both [[group]]s, determined that the [[populace]] of St Florian would benefit from independence. Relations between both groups remained strained for many more years.

The fledgling shire continued to expand its membership and increase the range of activities offered. The original training session was forced to move to a local sports ground to accommodate the growing numbers. The costs of this move and the ground hire were met by Morwynna for several months until the attendance numbers were sufficient to sustain the hire and running costs of the ground.

The group began to gain a reputation for running events that were a significant departure in content and style from that the other local SCA groups. St Florian aggressively promoted high achievement in the arts and sciences, leading to several of its [[member]]s being admitted into the [[Order of the Laurel]] and a Kingdom-wide reputation for achievement in these fields.

St Florian also was able to build a significant group of [[combatant]]s. The group supported the initial growth of the Ventbarre [[war]] unit and eventually several other liveried units. War units from St Florian have been awarded ‘Best Unit’ five times over the seven years that this competition ran during the [[Rowany Festival]].

The '''Great Northern War''' is an annual [[SCA]] [[camping]] [[event]] held in the "[[Northern Duchy]]" in [[Lochac]] over the [[Queen]]'s Birthday long weekend (QLD). It is hosted alternately between the [[Barony of River Haven]] and the [[Barony of St Florian de la Riviere]].

Currently it is held at Baden Powell Park Samford, [[Queensland]]

Previously it was held at the Allawah scout camp at Chuwar, Queensland.

The '''Kingdom of Lochac''' comprises all [[SCA]] [[groups]] in [[Australia]] and [[New Zealand]].

When the SCA groups in a region fulfill [[kingdom|certain criteria]] (as specified by [[Corpora]]), they can become a [[kingdom]], provided sufficient [[member]]s wish to do so. This occurred in [[Australia]] in July [[2002]]. The New Zealand groups joined the new kingdom at the Lochac [[May Crown tourney (Lochac)|May Crown]], [[2003]].

The Australian groups were previously the [[Principality]] of Lochac, part of the [[Kingdom of the West]]. The New Zealand groups were formerly part of the [[Kingdom of Caid]].

The name ''Lochac'' comes from the writings of [[Marco Polo]], where he catalogs the lands to the south. Lochac is described as a land south of Java with a [[sovereign]] [[king]]. Late [[16th century|sixteenth century]] [[map]]s can be found with Luchac, Beach and Maletur forming part of a large mainland area in the position of [[Western Australia]].

Northern Duchy

The "'''Northern Duchy'''" (also known by various other names - Northern Reaches, Terra Regina, Drottningsmark) refers to the [[SCA]] groups in the north eastern region of the [[Kingdom of Lochac]]

== Background ==
When Alfar succeed to the throne of Lochac in A.S.41, his predecessor - Draco, accused him of usurping the throne ( this was all done in fun to give a premise for war at Rowany Festival that year). As Draco was from the Northern Region of Lochac, the Baronies of the North joined him in revolt (Bacchus Wood , the only northern shire at the time, didn't formally declare for either side as far as the author is aware).

== Creation of the "Duchy" ==
At the final court of Rowany Festival, peace was declared and Alfar proclaimed Draco and Asa "Duke and Duchess of the North". Using the precept of "Crowns word is Law" some people (though not very seriously) took this proclamation as the creation of "The Duchy of the North".

== Validitiy of the "Duchy"==
While the creation of the "Duchy" was proclaimed by Alfar as King of Lochac, it's creation was never made law following the procedure laid out in Kingdom Law so therefore the "Duchy" does not officially exist.
Some argue it is valid using the precedent of Crown Principalities, as event though Crown Principalities physically exist , but the group type of Crown Principality does not exist in corpora. So using this line of argument some people say that the group type of "Duchy" is valid even though it does not appear in Corpora.

Great Northern War

Currently it is held at Baden Powell Park Samford, [[Queensland]]

Previously it was held at the Allawah scout camp at Chuwar, Queensland.
