Attica is the southernmost portion of mainland Greece, a district which includes the city of Athens and her demesne, including the plains of Marathon. In classical antiquity Attica was of central importance to the Hellenic golden age; during the medieval period it remained a prosperous area but of minimal political importance.

The classical Hellenic tongue is referred to as "Attic Greek"; it is in this language that the great Greek playwrights and philosophers wrote and in which most scholars would have studied the classics. It is a older and "purer" Greek than the koine (common) Greek of the Hellenistic and Roman eras, and as different from the Byzantine Greek of the medieval era as Chaucer's English is from modern English.
House Attica
House Attica is Sir Alfar of Attica's household in the SCA. Attica is primarily a fighting household and was made a Pillar of the West by Uther and Portia on 30th March A.S. XXXVI. Some knights that belong to Sir Alfar's household are Sir Gawyne d'Ibelin, Sir Gui von Oberhausen, Sir Osric Godwinesson (now known as Sir Guillaume d'Oze), Sir Berenger of Nancy, and Sir Jock Mactavish.

The Barony of Ynys Fawr is an SCA group in the Kingdom of Lochac that geographically covers all of Tasmania and lays claim to the Australian Antarctic Territories. Within its boundaries is the College of St Gildas the Wise.

Currently under the guidance of Baron Lucas and Baroness Madeline.

In the north of the state they hold weekly meetings on Tuesday nights so if you're a stickjock, a twangjock or a pointy-thing expert, come and join in! Weekly meetings are held in Launceston on Thursday nights as well. For those interested monthly A&S are held in Latrobe.

In 2006, the Barony was at war with New Zealand (also known as Gottmark or the Crescent Isles) for the possession of the Antarctic Territories. The winner at Rowany Festival 2006 took "possession" of the great white wasteland.

The Rowany Festival (sometimes called just "Festival") is Australia's largest SCA event. In 2008 it changed location to the Glenworth Valley Horse Riding centre, just north of Sydney. Anything that people do in the SCA (well, most things) will be on display in some form or other at Rowany Festival.

Festival happens every Easter long weekend - don't miss it for the world.

For more info, check out the website - http://www.sca.org.au/rowany/festival/

Religious observance
If religious reasons are inclined to slow down your attendance at an event over Easter, don't forget that a group of Christians generally get together in a discreet place to hold a scheduled Easter Sunday mass. And if Pesach falls at the same time of year, I'm sure there will be people cooking in accordance with customs - it's actually easier to avoid leavening agents in period cooking.

(Just so people are aware -- very occasionally, when Pesach does fall during Easter, a seder is held at the festival site. Contact Del if you want to be included in this).
Camping at Rowany Festival
Hrmm... so you're coming along and don't know what to take? Perhaps you need a camping list?

The history of Rowany Festival
Rowany Festival officially came into being in 1983 (A.S. XVII), when it ran for four days, and cost $40 AUD. The 2004 Rowany Festival ran for six days, and cost a little more.

Rowany Festival has had four different locations - Fairholme Park in Wilton,
Tara Girl Guide camp in Silverdale, and the Crossroads medieval village site near Yass. In 2008 it moved to the Glenworth Valley Horse Riding centre near Peats Ridge, New South Wales.
