== The College of St Christina the Astonishing ==

The '''College of St Christina the Astonishing''' is an [[SCA]] [[College]] in the [[Barony of Innilgard]] in the [[Kingdom of Lochac]]. It is based at Flinders [[University]], Adelaide, [[Australia]]. It was first established in 1990, but after a few years, fell into a long period of dormancy. It was revived in 2021, and has been active ever since. You can find their website [https://stchristina.lochac.sca.org/ here].

St Christina’s [[motto]] is ''ex cinera volumus'' - “from ashes we fly”, likening the miraculous revival to a phoenix’s flight. This was chosen by popular vote in 2022, and replaced the original motto ''duo capita plura sunt quam unum'' – “two heads are better than one”.

The college [[device]] has a depiction of Flessie (Flinders Nessie), the sea serpent that lives in the lake on campus. St Christina is also commonly associated with ducks - in the full coat of arms, the device is supported by two pacific black ducks, known as “Cheese” and “Quackers.” The association is also perpetuated by the legend of [[The Great Duck]] - a giant duck that is said will come to the College in its hour of need. Members have been known to try and summon it using the game of “duck duck goat”, and to make quacking noises when appropriate (such as after court, or whenever they feel like it). They have also claimed the [[dance]] known as [[petit vriens]] due to its colloquial name of the "duck dance", named for it's close resemblance to a line of [[duck]]s.

The college is closely allied with [[College of Blessed Herman the Cripple]]. After a brief period of war in A.S.56 (see: [[Inter-College War]] XXV), the two colleges signed a peace treaty, and have been friends ever since. In acknowledgement of Blessed Herman proving the superior force in battle, the clause was added that the banners of St Christina cannot be larger than the average size of [[Blessed Herman]] banners. The treaty also protects summoners of [[The Great Duck]] from any Hermanites harbouring anti-duck sentiments. (Which doesn't make sense anyway, I mean, have you seen how cute ducks are?)

== Hagiography ==
Saint Christina is the patron saint of millers, bakers, mental health workers, and people with mental disorders. The college founders chose her because “she sounded kinda crazy, and that appealed to us at the time”. Her feast day is the 24th of July.

'''Inter-College War (ICW)''' is an annual [[SCA]] [[event]] in [[Lochac]] at which all the [[College]]s of the kingdom meet for 4 days of [[camping]] (well actually indoors bunkhouses are usually provided), [[war]], [[drinking]], [[fighting]], drinking, [[feasting]], drinking, fighting, tomfoolery... etc. Each year a different University hosts ICW, and it's generally held during the midsemester break - perfect timing for the middle of [[winter]]! It can be a very amusing event, very rowdy, and tons of fun. To give you some idea, think of a large congregation of [[university]] students from all across [[Australia]] in [[garb]] and [[armour]] attempting to recreate pre-[[16th century]], ultimately resulting in much entertainment, new friends, incriminating photos and an extraordinary hangover.
 

ICW began in June [[A.S. XXIX]] ([[1994]]), as a challenge between [[College of St Aldhelm|St Aldhelm]] and [[College of St Ursula|St Ursula]] during "The Defense of The [[Realm]]", an event held at the [[Crossroads]] site in [[Torlyon]].

1997 *ICW IV - Held in [[Innilgard]] by [[Blessed Herman]], [[Blessed Herman]] won. Also won Gui's buttocks.

[[Blessed Herman]]'s [[seneschal]] kidnapped by colleges of St [[College of St Bartholomew|Bart]], [[College of St Basil the Great|Basil]], and [[College of St Ursula|Ursula]]. [[Blessed Herman|Herman]]'s Seneschal also declared "Quartermaster's fine booty". 
2016 *ICW XXI - Held by [[College of St Basil]]. Was declared a draw between St Basil and the [[College of St Bartholomew]] 
2017 *ICW XXII - Held by the [[College of St Monica]]. Won by [[Blessed Herman]]. 
2018 *ICW XXIII - Held by [[St Malachy]], with the help of [[St Ursula]]. Won by [[St Ursula]]. 
2019 *ICW XXIV - Held and won by the [[College of St Crispin]]. The formation of the Church of Morecock and its Holy order of the Knights of Bacardi saw a threat upon the hegemony of The Fish Wizard (Deum Cephlapodum) and his Cephalopod Collective. This broke out into a (mock) holy war. 
2020 & 2021 - Event not run due to COVID-19 
2022 *ICW XXV - Held by the [[College of St Christina the Astonishing]] in [[Innilgard]], with the assistance of [[Blessed Herman]]. Won by [[Blessed Herman]]. Additional disagreement between St Christina and Blessed Herman over land was settled with a treaty by request of [[King]] Alain and [[Queen]] Safiya. No ducks were harmed during this war. 
2023 *ICW XXVI - Held by the [[College of St Monica]]. Won by [[Blessed Herman]]. Collegians were divided into hunting parties to locate a giant swan which was terrorising the [[Barony of Krae Glas]]. However, no swan was ever found by any party. The Baron of Krae Glas may have eaten it, and its feathers may have ended up in Zofia Varsoviensis' hat. But nothing can be proved. 
2024 *ICW XXV and/or ICW XXVII - Held and won by [[St Ursula]]. The Ursulans and Crispies declared it was ICW XXV, while the Hermanites and their allies declared it was ICW XXVII and that this was an attempt to rewrite the history of two Hermanite victories in two years. War broke out over this perceived insult. 
2025 *ICW XXVIII - Held by [[Blessed Herman]] and won by [[College of St Monica|St Monica]]. The Collegians engaged in a game of thievery and deception to obtain enough [[Collegic relics]] to receive hints to the location and lock combination of a chest which didn't actually contain the sword, but Jolly Ollie, the steward, was forced to produce it by the Baronesses of Innilgard. 
2026 *ICW XXIX - Held by the [[College of St Monica]]. Was declared a draw between the [[College of St Basil]] and the [[College of St Christina the Astonishing]]. However, St Basil having no true representatives present withdrew from the running, leaving St Christina the winners.
