Encompassing most of the province of Ontario, [[Canada]], '''Ealdormere''' became the sixteenth [[kingdom]] of the [[Known World]] in October, [[A.S. XXXIII]] (1998). Before this, from [[A.S. XXIII]] (1988) to [[A.S. XXXIII]], Ealdormere was a [[principality]] of the [[Midrealm]], encompassing several pre-existing [[baronies]].

Ealdormere's symbols are the Trillium (a three-pointed white flower common to the region) and the [[wolf]]. Ealdormereans often use the term "the [[Northlands]]" as a synonym for Ealdormere (this is possibly a reference to the Canadian national anthem, or to the local popularity of [[Norse]] personas).

By long tradition, Ealdormere often fights alongside the Kingdom of the [[Middle]] in the [[Pennsic]] War under their own banners.

Combined with a change in [[Middle Kingdom]] law raising the requirements for becoming a [[Principality]], the Ban was punitive measure attempting the halt the growth of "regionalism" in the [[Midrealm]]. Directed specifically against Ealdormere, the Ban had a great impact on Ealdormeran culture and history.

In [[A.S. XXVI]], the first Army of Ealdormere, under Prince David I and Princess Tangwystl, marched to the [[Pennsic|Pennsic War]] alongside the army of [[Calontir]]. Although Ontarians had fought together since at least [[Pennsic]] VII this was the first time Ealdormere sent an army to Pennsic under its own banner.

In [[AS XXX]] there was trouble with the Crown banishing two senior peers of [[Ealdormere]]. As the controversy dragged on separatist opinion in [[Ealdormere]] grew to the point that Prince Mordain and Princess Aelflaeda formed the Laws commitee in february, with the aim of becoming a kingdom.

XL]], King Aaron issued a request at his [[coronation]] directed specifically at the [[Fighting Households of Ealdormere]], encouraging them to make and wear [[tabard]]s bearing the Kingdom's arms in time for the [[Pennsic War]]. '''Thorbjorn Osis Brandsson''' was a notable [[SCAdian]] who dwelt in what would become the [[Kingdom of Ealdormere]]. His full title was [[Duke]] [[Sir]] Thorbjorn Osis Brandsson, having been in his time [[King]] of the [[Midrealm]] twice and [[Prince]] of Ealdormere. He was knighted in [[A.S. XXVIII]] by King Jafar of the Middle Kingdom.

Sir Thorbjorn is mentioned extensively in the [[Chronicles of Eoforwic]], having been active in that [[canton]] for many years, although originally under the name '''Osis of the Livery'''. It was rumoured widely that his [[addubment]] was withheld by the [[Chivalry]] for years until he styled himself differently. An amusing anecdote in the Fifth [[Book]] of the Chronicles details how Sir Thorbjorn "discovered" his first name and was promptly [[knight]]ed for it. This anecdote has a kernel of truth in it, however the actual situation was much more complicated as one might imagine.

Sir Thorbjorn's second [[reign]] in the Midrealm was notable for the way it started, being the first reign after the [[Interregnum]] of [[A.S. XXX]]. Thorbjorn was also the first Midrealm king to require all three [[order]]s of [[peer|peerage]], the [[Royal Peers]] and the [[Baron|Baronage]] to formally swear [[fealty]] to the [[throne]] at the start of his reign; such formal [[homage]] had previously been done only by the [[Chivalry]].

Thanks for the clarification on Finnvarr's arms. I don't know the gentleman personally, only by reputation (and my, what a reputation!) and can only go by what's publicly available, thus making such mistakes as the difference between his arms and his badge.

'''Finnvarr de Taahe''' (alternatively spelled ''Finnvar'', ''Finvarr'' and ''Fionbar'' in some
manuscripts) is a very notable [[SCAdian]] dwelling in the [[Kingdom of Ealdormere]].
Currently his full title is His Grace Sir Finnvarr Duke de Taahe, having been the past monarch
of the Eastrealm and the Middle Kingdom. Finvarr was [[knight]]ed in A.S. VI, raised to the
[[Order of the Pelican]] in A.S. XIII, and has been a [[triple peer]] since A.S. XXXVI, when he
was elevated to the [[Order of the Laurel]]. He was awarded the title of [[Count]] after his first
reign in the [[East Kingdom]] in A.S. VIII, and has been a [[Duke]] since A.S. XII.

Duke Finnvarr is on record in the [[Chronicles of Eoforwic]] as being the first SCAdian active
in what is now [[Ealdormere]]. There are also numerous references to his martial prowess,
including one victory at the Spring Tourney in [[The Barony of Beau Fleuve]] in A.S. XIII as
"...his first victory since he began to fight left-handed." Finnvarr has greatly influenced not only

'''House DeTaahe''' is the personal [[household]] of [[His Grace]] [[Finnvarr de Taahe]], [[KSCA]], [[OL]], [[OP]]. It was originally founded by Finnvarr and his brother, and has grown over the years to a very great size. So large in fact, that it is more often now called Greater House DeTaahe as more and more of Finnvarr's former dependents become [[Peer]]s in their own rights, taking their own [[S.A.P.|dependents]]. Actually it's not all that large as large SCA households go. We use the Greater DeTaahe designation merely to distiguish between the core and the sub-households; which is either a joke or a conspiracy aimed at world supremacy, depending on who you ask. Current active membership (as at May 2006) is approximately 25.
