The '''Barony al-Barran''' is in the [[SCA]] [[Kingdom of Outlands]] and located mundanely in and around Albuquerque, NM. The borders of the Barony extend north to Algodnes, east to Moriarty, south to Belen and west to Grants. On its borders sits the [[Shire of Dyrgestan]] to the north, the [[Shire of Blackwater Keep]] to the east, the [[College of Saint Golias]] to the south, and the [[Barony of Fontaine dans Sable]] to the west. Al-Barran is one of seven [[Barony|Baronies]] in the [[Kingdom]] and predates the creation of the Outlands as a Kingdom by 10 years. Within the Barony the [[College of Blaiddwyn]] located at the [[University]] of New Mexico has come to thrive and contribute greatly to the success of al-Barran as a whole. The Barony currently consists of approximately 500 members active across all the areas of the SCA.

== History ==
On November 11, [[A.S. X]] ([[1975]]), the Barony of al-Barran was established in the [[Kingdom of Atenveldt]] with [[Sir]] Raymond the Quiet as the first [[Baron]] May 29, 1976. Among other claims to fame al-Barranians were the first Prince and Princess as well as the first King and Queen of the Outlands. In the development of the Outlands an al-Barranian sat as Prince and Princess 11 times during the Outlands time as a Principatily. Since becoming a Kingdom unto itself 21 Kings and Queens have hailed from the Barony.

The '''Order of the Heart of the Scorpion of al-Barran''' (CHSA) is an award from the [[Barony of al-Barran]] and was established in December 1992 and is given to those persons who, being at all times an example of chivalry, gentility, nobility and authenticity, are most exemplary in the conduct of themselves, to the greater credit and worth of al-Barran. The first companion of the order was Leah Kasmira of Natterhelm presented in December 1992. The insignia of this order features a golden scorpion with a red compass star on its body. The holders of this award shall be styled as Companions of the Heart of the Scorpion of al-Barran and shall be entitled to place the initials C.H.S.A. after their names.

The first companion of the order was Mordygan MacGregor presented in May 1991. The insignia of this order depicts a fawn laying on front of black wheel. The holders of the Order shall be styled as Companions of the Desert Fawn and shall be entitled to place the initials C.D.F. after their names.

The '''Order of the Scorpion of al-Barran''' (CSA) was established when the [[Barony of al-Barran]] was founded under Raymond the Quiet. It is presented to those persons who have given many hours of service to the furtherance of the Barony. The first companion of the order was Irminsul the Improbable presented in May 1977. Medallions of this order depict a scorpion within an orle within a border, all gold, on a black background. The holders of the Order shall be styled as Companions of the Scorpion of al-Barran and shall be entitled to place the initials C.S.A. after their names. Cordon Scorpion of al-Barran

The Cordon Scorpion is a way for the [[Barony of al-Barran]] to recognize the [[rapier]] fighters of the Barony who travel to [[Estrella War]] and fight for the good of the [[Barony]] and [[Kingdom]]. To recieve the award a fencer must petition the Baron and Baroness on their own behalf by the deadline set by the Excellencies. The only requirements for the petition are that the Baron and Baroness names, al-Barran, and Cordon Scorpion be spelled correctly on the petition and of course that the petitioner go and fight at the war. Many fencers use this as an opportunity to show case their sense of humor and/or their skills at a chosen art. The cordon is awarded Saturday night at Estrella during [[Order of the Guido | Guido]] [[Court]]. The cordon is made by the ladies of al-Barran of gold, black, and white cords woven together. It is often, but not always, this symbol that shows a fencer in the Barony to be a veteran.

The Guido is a way for the [[Barony of al-Barran]] to recognize the [[heavy fighters]] of the Barony who travel to [[Estrella War]] and fight for the good of the [[Barony]] and [[Kingdom]]. To recieve the award a fighter must petition the Baron and Baroness on their own behalf by the deadline set by the Excellencies. The only requirements for the petition are that the Baron and Baroness names, al-Barran, and Cordon Scorpion be spelled correctly. Many fighters use this as an opportunity to show case their sense of humor and/or their skills at a chosen art. The Guido is awarded Saturday night at Estrella during Guido [[Court]]. The last person to recieve a Guido each year is dubbed the Baby Guido and given a banner to display for the next year until a new Baby Guido is named. The Guido is made by the ladies of al-Barran and is a flat round black cap with a yellow head band divided at the edge into three sections. It is often, but not always, this symbol that shows a fighter in the Barony to be a veteran.

Traditionally fighters will decorate Guidos to make them unique. This serves the dual purpose of allowing the fighter to show off their personality and to make the Guido readily identifiable should it ever be lost. (It is important to note here that the Guido must truly be lost or abandoned. Attempts to steal a Guido will often result in a sever drubbing of the would be thief.) If a Guido is ever found after being lost it is to be returned to the Baron and Baroness of al-Barran for identification. Their Excellenicies will then call a special court to inform the populace that a Guido has been lost and returned to them and ask anyone missing their Guido to come forward and claim it. After the fighter comes forward they must accept any and all challenges from other Guido Bearer's before they are allowed to retrieve the lost and Errant Guido. This can be a long and painful process, especially if repeated multiple times during a single event.

The one exception to the tradition of presenting Guidos at Saturday evening court was at Estrella War XXII in AS XXIX (2006 Gregorian). On Friday afternoon between battles the Baron at the time, HE Master Ryan de Caergybi, called together the assembled fighters of al-Barran on the field to present a Guido to Lord Marcel Reinard who would be unable to attend court because of impending military deployment.

The '''Barony al-Barran''' is in the [[SCA]] [[Kingdom of Outlands]] and located mundanely in and around Albuquerque, NM. The borders of the Barony extend north to Algodnes, east to Moriarty, south to Belen and west to Grants. On its borders sits the [[Shire of Dyrgestan]] to the north, the [[Shire of Blackwater Keep]] to the east, the [[College of Saint Golias]] to the south, and the [[Barony of Fontaine dans Sable]] to the west. Al-Barran is one of seven [[Barony|Baronies]] in the [[Kingdom]] and predates the creation of the Outlands as a Kingdom by 10 years. Within the Barony the [[College of Blaiddwyn]] located at the [[University]] of New Mexico has come to thrive and contribute greatly to the success of al-Barran as a whole. The Barony currently consists of approximately 500 members active across all the areas of the SCA.

On November 11, [[A.S. X]] ([[1975]]), the Barony of al-Barran was established in the [[Kingdom of Atenveldt]] with [[Sir]] Raymond the Quiet as the first [[Baron]] May 29, 1976. Among other claims to fame al-Barranians were the first Prince and Princess as well as the first King and Queen of the Outlands. In the development of the Outlands an al-Barranian sat as Prince and Princess 11 times during the Outlands time as a Principatily. Since becoming a Kingdom unto itself 21 Kings and Queens have hailed from the Barony.

==History of the Outlands==
The Outlands was founded as an entity when it became a [[Principality]] in the [[Kingdom of Atenveldt]] in AS XXI. The first Prince and Princesss of the Outlands was Gunwaldt and Aislinn. 9 years later in AS XX the Kingdom of the Outlands was born with Gunwaldt and Aelflaed as King and Queen. During the early years of the Kingdom a war against Ansteorra the Outlands won control of the wild lands of Argonia where the King and Queen of the Outlands hold sway as Dread Lord and Lady.

==History of the Outlands==
The Outlands was founded as an entity when it became a [[Principality]] in the [[Kingdom of Atenveldt]] in AS XXI. The first Prince and Princesss of the Outlands was Gunwaldt and Aislinn. 9 years later in AS XX the Kingdom of the Outlands was born with Gunwaldt and Aelflaed as King and Queen. During the early years of the Kingdom a war against Ansteorra the Outlands won control of the wild lands of Argonia where the King and Queen of the Outlands hold sway as Dread Lord and Lady.
