Martin Luther (10 November 1483 – 18 February 1546) was the foremost figure of the Reformation in Europe and founded Lutheranism.

He was born in Eisleben to a miner.

In April 1523 he helped 12 nuns escape from a convent. He later married one of them, Katharina von Bora, on June 13, 1525.

Tobacco is another import from the New World by the Spaniards. The word may be related to Tabaco, a province of Yucatan, or the Caribean island of Tobago. However, similar words in Spanish and Italian were commonly used from 1410 to define medicinal herbs, originating from the Arabic tabbaq, a word dating to the 9th century.

Used as a sacred herb since at least 3000 BCE in various North American native cultures, tobacco was introduced as a recreational drug in Europe during the Elizabethan era, imported principally from Spanish colonies in and around the Caribbean and from the English colonies in South Virginia.

Unlike the most common modern tobacco use, the Elizabethan English smoked tobacco in small clay pipes, a habit which did not enjoy favour with James Stuart.

Tobacco reached the Muslim world through the Ottoman Empire at the end of the 16th century, after the end of period.

Tobacco in the SCA
In the SCA, as in other medieval reenactment groups, smoking tobacco is generally seen as an offensive anachronism and those who smoke are encouraged to do it discreetly or at a distance. This restriction is aided, in Canada and Australia, by the widespread legal ban of smoking in enclosed spaces.

Agape is one of the three classical "types" of love; the term is used to refer to the paternal love of God for man, and of man for God, and extends to the brotherly love a man is supposed to feel for all humanity. [The Greek philosophers, it must be noted, rarely took part in crown tournaments or open melees]
Inherent in the concept are two, apprently dissonant, aspects -- the blind adoration appropriate to man perceiving God (which possibly exceeds the eros type of love, and the rational appreciation of God's worthiness which would trigger the philia type.

In medieval times a further argument arose, over whether one should love a neighbour who, ostensibly, did not warrant such love. The argument was finally resolved (insofar as philosophical arguments ever are) in favour of non-discrimination, as backed, in the Christian environment then current in Western Europe, by the admionition to "turn the other cheek".

The other "types" of love are phila and eros
