The '''Kingdom of Lochac''' comprises all [[SCA]] [[groups]] in [[Australia]] and [[New Zealand]].

When the SCA groups in a region fulfill [[kingdom|certain criteria]] (as specified by [[Corpora]]), they can become a [[kingdom]], provided sufficient [[member]]s wish to do so. This occurred in [[Australia]] in July [[2002]]. The New Zealand groups joined the new kingdom at the Lochac [[May Crown tourney (Lochac)|May Crown]], [[2003]].

The Australian groups were previously the [[Principality]] of Lochac, part of the [[Kingdom of the West]]. The New Zealand groups were formerly part of the [[Kingdom of Caid]].

The name ''Lochac'' comes from the writings of [[Marco Polo]], where he catalogs the lands to the south. Lochac is described as a land south of Java with a [[sovereign]] [[king]]. Late [[16th century|sixteenth century]] [[map]]s can be found with Luchac, Beach and Maletur forming part of a large mainland area in the position of [[Western Australia]].

First it was the Ampersand Bandits. Now we have new class of vandals with a different MO - the Illegible Vandals! We have been getting unknown people adding just one word consisting of 8-10 characters to a range of pages. I believe the choice of characters is random because I don't recognise anything that I would find in any of my dictionaries. So the vandalism is pretty pointless. :Yeah, I have since noticed repeat offenders. The thing that gets me is the fact that there seems to be no reason for these attacks. I despise vandals. Vandalism to Cunnan articles will be quickly corrected and the vandal's IP outright banned for a an appropriate length of time. Be aware that my definition of "an appropriate length of time" is ''inversely'' proportional to the amount of caffeine in my bloodstream.

I've been away from Cunnan for a long time as I've been busy with uni. I've read everyone's comments regarding the vandals and have looked at the mess they've been making recently.

Anonymous edits are no longer allowed. Hopefully they can be enabled again later after I've looked at other possible solutions.

There will also be a software upgrade in the next few weeks.

Has Cunnan evolved so far away from its St Monica/Lochac roots that setting up a section under Kingdom of Lochac to support something like the above (but for Lochac) would be a no-go these days? I refer to Village pump discussions mid-2007 on culling some SCA-specific stuff that was seen mainly as ego-boo.

Or would it be fair enough? A wiki is a very good way to maintain this sort of thing; the question is whether we need to set up a whole new one, or use the resource that already exists, but which may no longer be appropriate. (Or, indeed, whether Cunnan would be open to any Kingdoms which wished to use it so).

'''Canterbury Faire''' is the largest [[SCA]] [[event]] held in [[New Zealand]] as part of the [[Kingdom of Lochac]]. It is a 5-6 day (8 days in 2009) [[camping event]] involving around 250 people.

It is held around [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waitangi_day Waitangi] Weekend (Feb. 6th) each year, at a site less than an hour north of Christchurch, in the [[Barony of Southron Gaard]]. The event includes a melange of [[war scenario]]s, [[tourney]]s, [[art]]s workshops, [[dancing]], [[rapier]], [[archery]], [[bardic art]]s, [[court]], [[merchant]]ing, a sell-out [[feast]], and much more besides.

This list is taken from a database maintained by the [[Kingdom]] [[Seneschal]] and also contains up to date lists of group contacts. Furthermore, the database contains a mapping from [[Australia]]n groups to Postcodes so that you can enter your postcode or suburb name into the web form and it will tell you what group you belong to.

Some interesting fluff about groups in the [[Kingdom of Lochac]]:

* All groups have a set of postcodes assigned, except groups in [[New Zealand]] and colleges. The [[registrar]]'s database uses the same mapping so that your [[membership card]] will have the correct group on it based on your postcode.
* [[New Zealand]] groups are assigned by telephone area code.
* [[College]]s are assigned by personal choice -- if you say on your membership form that you're in a college then that's what the [[registrar]] will put on your membership card and that's what the [[Kingdom]] [[Seneschal]] will assign your membership to.
* If you belong to a college then you also count towards the membership of the group in which you live (not the group where the college is based), so that if you live in [[Arrowsreach]] but are a member of [[College of St Monica|St Monica's]] then your membership will count towards Arrowsreach and not [[Krae Glas]].

[[Membership]] assignment to groups is important -- to count as an official group, a [[shire]], [[canton]], or [[college]] must have 5 [[member]]s and a [[barony]] must have 25. Note that as of October [[2004]] all members, including family and associate members, count towards group numbers.

This list is taken from a database maintained by the [[Kingdom]] [[Seneschal]] and also contains up to date lists of group contacts. Furthermore, the database contains a mapping from [[Australia]]n groups to Postcodes so that you can enter your postcode or suburb name into the web form and it will tell you what group you belong to.

Some interesting fluff about groups in the [[Kingdom of Lochac]]:

* All groups have a set of postcodes assigned, except groups in [[New Zealand]] and colleges. The [[registrar]]'s database uses the same mapping so that your [[membership card]] will have the correct group on it based on your postcode.
* [[New Zealand]] groups are assigned by telephone area code.
* [[College]]s are assigned by personal choice -- if you say on your membership form that you're in a college then that's what the [[registrar]] will put on your membership card and that's what the [[Kingdom]] [[Seneschal]] will assign your membership to.
* If you belong to a college then you also count towards the membership of the group in which you live (not the group where the college is based), so that if you live in [[Arrowsreach]] but are a member of [[College of St Monica|St Monica's]] then your membership will count towards Arrowsreach and not [[Krae Glas]].

[[Membership]] assignment to groups is important -- to count as an official group, a [[shire]], [[canton]], or [[college]] must have 5 [[member]]s and a [[barony]] must have 25. Note that as of October [[2004]] all members, including family and associate members, count towards group numbers.

The '''Barony of Southron Gaard''' is centered on Christchurch, [[New Zealand]] and comprises the southern half of New Zealand, including its territories in [[Antarctica]]. It was officially recognised as a [[Shire]] of the [[Kingdom of Caid]] in [[A.S. XVIII]]. It became a [[Barony]] in [[A.S. XXXI]], with Sigurd Hardrada and Eleanora van den Bogaerde as the first [[Baron]] and [[Baroness]]. In [[A.S. XXXVII]] the lands of Southron Gaard passed to the [[Kingdom of Lochac]].

The [[Incipient]] [[College]] of [[St Kessog]] was formed as a sub-group of the Barony at the University of Otago in Dunedin towards the end of [[A.S. XL]] and the Incipient [[Canton]] of [[Castelburn]] was formed in the same region a few months later. The Barony also enjoys warm relations with a steel group based at the University of Canterbury, known as [[Ordo Cygni]].

Southron Gaard's best-known event is [[Canterbury Faire]], a 5-6 day camping event held around February 6th each year. Among those who have grown up with the [[Rowany Festival]], CF is frequently described as "Festival, the way it used to be". Locals add: "no mudde, no duste, no venymous fauna, WARMER!".

Over the years, a number of [[SCA]] [[Kingdom]]s have laid formal claim over Antarctica, only one of which - [[Lochac]] - has an extant claim which has been approved by the SCA [[BoD]].

There are several viewpoints surrounding the 'ownership' of Antarctica but it should be noted that it is a very large continent hosting visitors from many mundane lands, all generally there on a short-term basis and with no recognised SCA group permanently based there.

# Two Baronies which are now part of Lochac - the [[Barony of Southron Gaard]] and [[Barony of Ynys Fawr]] - made independent claims to "parts of Antarctica" when each was formed in the early 1980s. Over the years, these groups have contested their claims internally within Lochac and also combined to resist claims from others.
# Some years later, The Kingdom of [[Trimaris]] presented a claim to the BoD which the BoD initially approved and then overturned at their next quarterly meeting, upon a successful submission from Lochac demonstrating the existence of the prior claims (see http://sg.sca.org.nz/gwsl.htm)
# Trimaris have no recognised claim at this time, with the FAQ on the Trimaris site stating only that they have "a sometimes claim" over [[Antarctica]] and [[Panama]].
# Lochac's home page (http://www.sca.org.au/lochac/) says that the Kingdom comprises "Australia, New Zealand and their Antarctic territories".
