An SCA Principality is an area within an SCA Kingdom ruled by a Prince and Princess. For an area to become a principality, Corpora requires it to have:

*At least 100 SCA members.
*Candidates for all Great Officer positions.
*A name and device registered with the College of Arms.
*Consensus from the local members that they want to become a principality.
*A record of active events & participation.
*Enough peers to provide leadership and knowledge.
*Enough good fighters to contest the Coronet tournament.
The longsword is considered by some to the symbol of the Western knight. Refered to by some as a 'bastard' or 'hand and a half sword', it remained an oft carried weapon by a knight or men at arms, even in times when he would rely primarily on other weapons in actual war.

The blade was sharpened on both edges and fencing masters would often teach strikes with the false or 'back' edge of the blade. The longsword typical retains a straight or near-straight crossguard even in ages when other guards were proving more suitable for combat. Many believe this has to do with the religious imagery of the cross the sword makes when viewed point down.

Longsword Fechtbucher
A number of period fechtbucher or fencing manuals have survived from fencing masters such as Talhoffer, Liechtenauer and Vadi allowing us to develop a reasonable understanding of actual combat techniques of this weapon, should one wish to do so.

Longsword vs Arming Sword
Separate to the longsword, but often confused with the same, is the weapon that has come to be known as the arming sword. The confusion is fostered by the reference in the popular roleplaying game Dungeons and Dragons and brought into recreationist societies by those that play the same. The primary (and some say only) difference is that the arming sword is used primarily used one handed (allowing the use of a shield or buckler) and the longsword is used primarily (some say only) with two hands precluding the use of a defensive device. This is because an arming sword's blade is shorter than the longsword, and the hilt typically lacks enough room to place both hands in a comfortable combat position.
The Games Guild of Ealdormere is an open organization of medieval games enthusiasts within the Society for Creative Anachronism. Our primary goal is to teach folks about medieval games, and spread our love for them.

Though the guild is based in Ealdormere, it has members and sister-guilds in various other kingdoms. The Guild's membership is open to anyone who is interested, whether they reside within the Kingdom of Ealdormere or not. The only requirements are that you register yourself with the Head of the Guild and, when at an event in a Guild function, represent us to the best of your abilities.

It was founded in November AS 36 (2001), with the guild's charter being signed by His Majesty Aaron and Her Majesty Rustique.
A steward was responsible for the management of a household, like a seneschal. The scope of their powers and duties varied depending on the size of the household. Some were large enough that the steward managed the land and finances for the entire estate.

In Scotland, the Stuart family derived their name from being stewards to the royal house.

In Heraldry, stewards are represented by the Cornucopia, the Horn of Plenty.
Stewards in the SCA
Steward is sometimes used within the SCA as an alternative title to autocrat, especially when one wishes to be more period. A steward can also refer to someone who manages the service at feast - announcing courses and directing servers.
Stitch (Sewing)
A stitch is a pattern of forcing thread up through fabric then back down. The pattern can be repeated. Stitches can be decorative (cf. Embroidery) for trimming and ornamenting clothing or accessories, or functional for holding two or more pieces of fabric together to make clothing, garb, or accessories.

Stitch (Health)
A stitch is also slang for a cramp: a "stitch in your side" means a painful shortness of breath.
