In [[SCA]] [[war]]s, '''non-combatants''' are people who are out on the [[field]] but cannot [[engage]] in [[combat]] with anyone on the field. They can be [[kill]]ed as a [[light fighter|light]] and must comply to minimum [[light armour]] standards. To become [[authorisation|authorised]] as a non-combatant, you must be over the minimum combat age for your [[kingdom]] and know the [[rules of the list]].

Being a non-combatant is the best way to enjoy a war and get a feel for it without actually having to do much at all!

Types of non-combatants:
* [[Banner Bearer]] (particularly in [[Lochac]] for which the term is often used exclusively)
* [[Scout]]
* [[Water Bearer]] (In Ansteorra waterbearers must be non-combat authorised to water bear on the field during melee/resurection battles)

The term is also used to refer to spectators or members of the [[populace]] who aren't directly involved in wars or [[tournament]]s.
