Johannes Liechtenauer was a German fencing. Thought to have been born in the earlier part of the 14th century. Not much is known about his life except that he was very skilled and travelled widely to study and learn the sword.

He is the father of what is called the German school of swordsmanship and his students carried on his arts into the 15th century.
